Windows Media Center is an add on to XP Pro. It is built on the XP pro platform. The jury is still out as it seems to lack a few features for security that are in XP Pro from what I understand.

Windows Media Player OR as I like to call it,,, Winders TV is an Operating System that is more focus to providing enhanced video and audio capabilities. I have had a few issues with it in an office environment but find it really nice for a Home Entertainment System.

If you are NOT wanting WMC for a home entertainment center and are wanting a more affordable copy of XP Pro for home use I would recommend it. But remember it's primary focus is enhanced media delivery.

I will commit and say that I see no difference in Multimedia Playback between XP Home, Pro or Media Center. I also find that Media Center like a bigger CPU and more memory.

Not to brief but should help.
