A Roman Catholic priest in Frankfort was disciplined after his bishop received "incontrovertible evidence" that he sexually and psychologically abused a girl in the 1970s, the Lexington diocese said in a statement.
Bishop Ronald W. Gainer, who hadn't previously announced what actions he took against Rev. Stephen F. Gallenstein, has also asked the Vatican to dismiss him from the priesthood.
A review process wasn't necessary for the other punishment, the diocese said, citing a 2002 charter that ordered dioceses be transparent about the alleged abuse of minors by members of the clergy.
