Maysville Community and Technical College officials are bracing for the reaction as the board of regents of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System voted Friday to recommend an $109 per credit hour in-state tuition rate for the 2006-2007 academic year, including fees.
The decision for an 11 percent increase from current tuition rates was based on the need to continue to meet the mandates laid out for KCTCS in the 1997 Postsecondary Education Improvement Act, according to a press release. The press release also stated a new set of benchmark established by the Council on Postsecondary Education in 2005 ranked KCTCS 18 out of 20 in public funding, indicating a $79 million gap in state appropriation relative to the other states.
