Maysville – Joseph P. Cooney, 82 died Thursday February 23, 2006, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cooney was born February 3, 1924 in Maysville to the late John J. and Anna Manion Cooney. He was married to Nora Jane Maley Cooney on May 10, 1948.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cooney is survived by seven children, Jane (Don) Skrodenis, Michael (Michele) Cooney, Barbara, (Clair) Anderson, Tom (Crystal) Cooney, Sue (Kenny) Brammer, David (Melissa) Cooney and Carole (Brian) Foos. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Mae Maley, Margaret Stambaugh, Rosie Ryan, Margie Applegate, brother-in-law John Maley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by and infant son, James and a brother John. M. Cooney.

Mr. Cooney was a retired executive vice-president and director of Bank of Maysville. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1942 and attended Xavier University. Mr. Cooney was a World War II veteran in the European Theater, and was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday February 28 at St. Patrick Church with the very Rev. William Hinds officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, February 27 at Brell & Son Funeral Home with Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Patrick School, P.O. Box 248, Maysville, 41056

The Lord needed an angel. Mr. Cooney and his wife are very good people. I used to be one of his tenants. He was a very good landlord and a very good person in general. He would help anyone out that he could within reason. He will be saddly missed but not forgotten. I just want the family to know that if they need anything that my husband and I would be more than happy to help in anyway we can. Our prayers go out to the family in hopes to ease the pain of their loss.
