McDonald's faces at least three lawsuits claiming the fast-food giant misled the public after it acknowledged earlier this week its french fries contain milk and wheat ingredients.

Some people have celiac disease, which causes gastrointestinal symptoms set off by eating gluten, a protein found in wheat.

Vegetarians say they eat no animal products and would not eat the fries if they had known they contained dairy ingredients.

McDonald's, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, said that wheat and dairy products are used to flavor its fries.

Before its acknowledgment Monday, the company had quietly added "Contains wheat and milk ingredients" to the french fries listing on its Web site (http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nutrition.categories.ingredients.in dex.html).

[sighs] Makes you wonder when people will wake up, and smell the coffee. Or in this case, learn you cannot trust corporations; they'll do anything in order to sell a product. Maybe short of killing people, but how far?

At least in my case I can't eat their fries, but still it ticks me off they stick milk in them.

Several years ago while visiting our child's allergist one of the nurses told us that she had found out through her own experience with her allergic child that McDonald's french fry oil has a certain amount of sugar in it to give the fries that one of a kind taste, which also makes them taste better. That's one reason why you can't find any other fast food chain with fries that taste as good as theirs. True story? Don't know; but it makes sense in light of this latest discovery.

It goes to show what will happen when people stick their nose into a companies business.

McDonald's used to have the best fries. Now days the are just plain NASTY. Had they not tried to PLEASE these whining groups and told them to go buy the fries from the place they like the best I would be enjoying the original fries from Micky"D"'s.

If you where worried that the fries where going to kill you you could stop eating them. McDonald's never lost the first sale due to cholesterol. The where pressured to change an Excellent Product by Groups and Government only to find out YEARS later there original product was not that bad for you.

Just another classic example of what these groups can do. Now McDonald's is happier cause I am sure these junk fries are easier to make than these new Genetically Altered Fries.

French Fries contain:
Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef, wheat and dairy sources), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Breading set in vegetable oil. Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and/or partially hydrogenated corn oil and/or partially hydrogenated canola oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil and/or corn oil). Contains wheat and milk ingredients.

From web MD : Dextrose, a type of sugar, could kick athletes' sports performance up a notch, new research shows.

The sweetener was the underdog winner in a recent study of sugar supplements given to college athletes.

Celiac is actually a rather rare disease (and hereditary, at that). I have a daughter who has a very severe case of it. At the time that she was diagnosed, about 18 months of age (she's 24 now), she was one of only six patients in KY being treated for it. I think that it has become a bit more common, or perhaps more recognized, over the years, but it's still very rare.

I'll have to ask her about the fries. I find that interesting. And disturbing.
