If industry rumblings are correct, the recording industry may be preparing a legal assault against ISPs. Multiple industry sources to Digital Music News have pointed to the possibility, and recent comments by IFPI chairman John Kennedy correlate with the chatter... [They have] called for ISPs to monitor and limit access to users that trade files illegally, while leaving the door open to litigation if negotiations are unsuccessful...

If the RIAA wants to target the ISP's because they supply the pipes for people to pirate the music they will have gone as far as they can go, because if they succeed then imagine all the people who have suffered at the hands of a drunk driver suing over the roads that were built that allow them to drive on while drunk!

Honestly, this sounds very much like the last gasp of RIAA (and for the most part MPAA.) For one, I agree with the article. ISPs is a multi-billion a year company, which is more than a match for RIAA.
I just read reciently that RIAA and the MPAA both are trying to set up some sort of draconian president, whereby ANY device, now or in the future that deals with multi-media will have to be ran by them before it can be built. This means cell phones, Ipods, DVD players, AND computers. If they don't like it, it doesn't get built... Original article here (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060121-6025.html) This is nonsense of course. You can't let the entire world be held hostage by one corporation, especially something that is not essensal. Music is nice, but it's a privlage, not a need like food.
This, and this ISP lawsuit, just shows me that RIAA is desperate to stop the slipping of their CDs. Also wasn't ISPs exempted from any sort of lawsuit of this nature?
Let RIAA sue the ISPs. I'll stand behind Limestone cable, and Bell South 100% on this.
