The nonprofit Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) today announced its collection data for 2005, reporting the collection of almost 5 million pounds of rechargeable batteries in the U.S. and Canada, an increase of nearly 10 percent from 2004.

Since the beginning of 2005, RBRC has experienced an increase in participation among national retailers, businesses, communities and licensee recycling programs to set up convenient drop-off facilities for used rechargeable batteries and cell phones.

In Maysville, you can drop off your unwanted batteries at the Radio Shack in the Market Square Shopping Center.

In related news, Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence announced yesterday more than 1500 mobile phones and accessories were donated by state employees in less than two months. The phones were collected throughout the holiday season in HopeLine® bins, which were placed in state office buildings, state parks, KSP posts, and the capitol campus.
