More super rogue anti-spyware
Be on the lookout for another new supposed anti-spyware program that might be hijacking desktops any day now. This one is called PestTrap and it's a clone of SpySheriff. SpySheriff was one of the top 10 rogue anti-spyware apps of 2005, coming in at number 2. You can see a screenshot of the PestTrap website at SunbeltBLOG and a screenshot of the app itself, along with the false positives in the scan results here. You'll see that SpySheriff, SpyTrooper, SpyDemolisher, SpywareNo! and Spyware-Stop are almost identical. If you scroll down the page a bit, you can see the other families of apps like SpyAxe and RazeSpyware that are deemed to be CoolWebSearch related by spyware researchers.

Couple of those listed are Mondo/Winfixer not CWS. I think they are labeled wrong.

Generally when things change and you did not change them it is a virus. My suggestion is that you take it to TCS Service on Second street here in Maysville. They have always helped me out and are not outrageously expensive. And when they fix it stays fixed!
Good luck AmandaAnn

Foxy is right, about changes you didn't do, could be a virus. The next best thing, is to download Spybot, search and destory (http://www.safer-networking.org/), Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/), and Microsoft anti-spyware (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx) and run them on your system. Chances are your already infected. That should get rid of most spyware out of your system.
I'm working on an article for here, on how to avoid spyware, but it's a bit beyond this letter for now. Requires some new programs. But I'll post it very soon. Until then, run these programs weekly, and it'll keep you pretty clean.

Amanda:
Yes, it's best to run all three. Back about 10 years ago, when I was taking classes in computer repair, our instructor said that with anti-viruses, it's good to run 2 or 3 different scanners at times on your system. The reason is that one program may catch things the others miss due to various factors.
The same goes with anti-spyware I found. One of the most troubling problems with anti-spyware, is that spyware unlike viruses, is written by companies who have no quams about sueing or threating to sue anyone who lists them as a threat. One company just sued ZoneLabs (Maker of zonealarm), for listing them as a high risk. That company 180 something, has been nailed SEVERAL times for spyware infecting. So, these companies may threaten to sue one anti-spyware company, in order to be taken off the anti-spyware's software. But another program may still list it, and then catch it.
There is more free anti-spyware out there, but those three are the best. Best not to use any anti-spyware unless you ask here. There's many rogue anti-spyware programs out there, that will infect you while saying they're removing spyware.
do i need to do all 3?
thanks for all of your help
