Maysville police are seeking the public's help in capturing a man who is suspected of stealing thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes from a Maysville business.
The theft took place on Dec. 4 when police said a male entered the Speedway at the intersection of U.S. 68 and Kentucky 9, went into a back storage room and removed about $5,000 in cigarettes while employees were at the front of the store.

Just to add this is a Time Lapsed Video. Quality is Fair:
The male subject came in through the front door of the Speedway. Looks like he was moving around the store for a couple of minutes watching the clerks.
He then steps in the back room storage door that causes the automatic lights to come on. Steps back out to see what the clerks are doing.
He then goes back in to the Storage Room and starts to move boxes of Cigarettes up to the back Exit door. He props the back open a little so he can access it later.
He goes out to the the store area and grabs what looks like a soda pop and then goes to the check to pay for it.
He then exits the store. Goes around the back to the propped open door and grab the boxes he stacked there.
There is a little more to the video but it would make the file much bigger. This is just the "Best Of" to get the meat of what happened.
Hope this helps you some.

This video is about 2meg in size, It's a little big. Give it a minute or so. It is compiled from a bunch of still pictures then pasted together. The images where rather large .bmp files.
Will try to compress is later this afternoon. But have been trying for about 2 days to compress is,

I find it amazing someone can pull that off during operating hours without a hitch. What motivates this stuff. Desperation? Laziness?
I wonder if people paid more attention to their surroundings, would this stuff go so far? To find this person will cost our Taxe$. Would it be worth it to determine the motivation of these actions and take steps to avoid that in the future?
Best of luck catching the perp. It's fuzzy though.

Extremely fuzzy, You hit the nail on the head. Learn from the mistakes so as to not cost us in the future.
Speedway has taken many procedures to help prevent this in the future.

I find that VERY strange as well, I used to work part time for Super America in Lexington, (when I was younger, before Speedway bought them out)we had at least two people on duty at all times. It was absolutely mandatory for one of us to be behind the counter at ALL times. Therefore I don't know of any reason WHY they would be outside at the same time, leaving the registers unattended. Maybe the police should do a more extensive investigation on the employee's.

Thanks Chuck for clearing up some of my questions, but I would still like to know why the alarm on the back door didn't sound. I don't know about this particular store but, the stores I worked in you needed a key to turn off the alarm. The only ones with keys is the store and shift managers.
(things that make you say........hmmmmmmm.)

Very true. There is a fire alarm wired to those doors, but if for some reason the alarm was disabled at that time, end of story. Still, it does make you wonder.

OK, this brings up another point I forgot to mention. The ONLY time the back door should be disabled is for deliveries, period. I still say somethings wrong with this picture. I still think the police should investigate the employees present at time of robbery; and ones who were off-duty and been fired or quit. Someone obviously knew when that back door would be accessible. I most definitely think it was planned from both sides and would never believe the robber just so happened to get the luck of the draw.
