Maysville - Mary Nicholas Brand of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, died January 17, 2006. She was 80 years old. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James T. S. Nicholas, Mary was born March 19, 1925 in Maysville, Kentucky. Her sister Helen Nicholas Fassolitis and brother Vasilios Nicholas preceded her in death. She was the loving mother of Charles Demetrious Brand, James Michael Brand (deceased), David Warren Brand (deceased), Linda Brand Hutcheson and Mary Carolyn Brand Woodall. Mary was the adoring grandmother of Troy Scott Brand, Michael Nicolaou Brand, Charles Demetrious Brand, James Nicholas Brand, Amber Woodall Gilles, Matthew Keith Hutcheson, Caroline Nicole Hutcheson, David Andrew Hutcheson and Nicholas Rodewolt Hutcheson. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Michael Nicholas Brand, Jr., Hayley Nicole Brand, Nicholas Isaac Lampros, Ariana Mae Gilles and Aubrey Brooke Brand. Mary is also survived by her daughter-in-law Christia Brand and her son-in-law Schyuler Woodall.
Mary was one of the few women graduates of the University of Kentucky’s School of Pharmacy in 1947. Mary practiced pharmacy in Kentucky, Florida, and North Carolina. She was married to Dr. Charles Max Brand for 19 years. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nativity. She will be missed by all who were touched by her outgoing, fun nature and her unique sense of humor..
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nativity on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Canan Bryant Kibler officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Visitation will be at Brell & Son Funeral Home on Friday, January 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
