VANCEBURG -- Roger Lee Bivens, 62, of Vanceburg, died unexpectedly at 7:14 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.

Mr. Bivens was born in Lewis County on Aug. 14, 1943 in Black Oak, to the late Russell Earl Bivens and Daisy Helen Gifford Bivens.

Mr. Bivens was co-owner of BIivens Silvey Realty & Auction Company, Inc. in Vanceburg, treasurer and member of Reynolds Chapel United Methodist Church in Black Oak and attended Morehead State University for two years. He was past treasurer and member of Lewis County Agricultural and School Fair Board, a member of the Lewis County Industrial Authority, past president of Vanceburg Lions Club and past president of Jaycees. He was a member of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce. Third Degree Master Mason with St. Mary's Lodge No. 240, Concord, Free and Accepted Masons and a member of the National Association of Realtors. He was also a licensed appraiser and auctioneer. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Indra Consistory in Covington.

Mr. Bivens is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra Armstrong Bivens of Black Oak; two sons, Roger Lee Bivens, 11, and Stephen Bivens and his companion, Melody Chinn, both of Vanceburg; one daughter, Cheryl Crawford and her companion, Terry Rankins of Tollesboro; six grandchildren, Erica and Jared Rankins, Travis Crawford, Roger Lee Bivens III, Ethan and Shelbey Bivens; and one brother, Russell Earl (Margaret) Bivens Jr. of Navarre, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday at the Vanceburg United Methodist Church in Vanceburg with Rev. Paul Pepoon and Rev. Jim Vanden officiating.

Burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted today at 7 p.m. at the Gaydo Funeral Home.



Friends may call from 5-9 today and from 8 a.m. until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
