CINCINNATI - The mummified body of a woman who didn't want to be buried was found in a chair in front of her television set 2 1/2 years after her death, authorities said.

Johannas Pope had told her live-in caregiver that she didn't want to be buried and planned on returning after she died, Hamilton County Coroner O'Dell Owens said Monday.

Pope died in August 2003 at age 61. Her body was found last week in the upstairs of her home on a quiet street. Some family members continued to live downstairs, authorities said. No one answered the doorbell at Pope's home Monday afternoon.

An air conditioner had been left running upstairs, and that allowed the body to slowly mummify, he said. The machine apparently stopped working about a month ago, and the body began to smell.

oh my gosh ponto what a horrific story, can you imagine being family members of that lady, going on about life as if there was not a dead decomposing body upstairs, how could lay down and go to sleep at night, heck fire how could you do anything knowing a dead body was above your head........................

Do you reckon that house is now haunted or is a house only haunted by murdered spirits....................

can you imagine how many diseases the body must have carried. I hope they take the child and put her in a good home. How can a parent let a child live in a home with a dead, decomposing body? How can anyone live that way for that matter.

My first thought was I bet someone was still cashing her Social Security checks...I know that's terrible for me to say, but I guess that's just my nature.

It's terrible, but i'll bet your right. I'd say that is one reason they kept her there. Some people will do anything for money.

My wife and I were talking about that at supper last night. I told my wife they will have to burn that house down, because no one would ever live in it knowing the story behind it.
