Is there a quicker PDF file reader other than Adobe Reader? That thing is so slow. And big to boot. I was just wondering if there was something better out there. I found a program to speed it up, but it is not for version 7. It gets an error message when you close it out, but it sure loads quickly. Any ideas?

linux in linux....joking, there is a windows version here - http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/xpdf.htm

never personally used it, so I cant really say how much better it is, other than the fact that it must be crippled by windows from the start.

Bashing windows, every day of my life!

TK:

Oooooo yes, there is. Check out foxit PDF reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php) I've been using this for about a year now. ONly had one problem reading a PDF. I submitted it to them, and within a couple of weeks, it was fixed.

I've also been sending 6+ meg PDFs to various appraisal companies for the past two years, and not one time did I have a problem reading my own files. These are generated by a open source PDF creator, PDF Creator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/). This is installed like a printer, so any program that prints, can generate a PDF as well. So far, not one problem.

What I hate about Adobe's PDF reader, is that a) it's bloated beyond reason. 7 megs for the reader? and b) They're bloating the download package with add-on junk, that may or may not be spyware. So hope Foxit works for you, and try the PDF Creator. I've been spoiled by it :)

Hey kcredden. That works great. Loads super fast. I tried the one that RHP mentioned. But I must have done something wrong. I couldn’t get it to work. It was in the program menu but I couldn’t get it to fire up. I don’t write PDF files, I just needed a reader. That Adobe Reader is so bloated. I was getting ready to try and find Adobe Reader 6 and try the speed trick on it, but even that version is bloated for what I want. Thanks.

sorry, I hated to recommend one I never personally used - but it works great on linux anyways.

Your more than welcome TK. I'm really impressed with Foxit myself, and it's always nice to stick to companies that think bloat=great :). The only Adobe I recommend aside from Foxit, is v5. After that, it started to go out of control.
