Visa deals with possible data breach

Visa USA acknowledged Saturday that a U.S. merchant "may have experienced a data security breach" that compromised credit card account information.

The statement came in response to a News.com inquiry related to customers whose Visa debit cards had been put on fraud watch or deactivated due to a security breach. The customers include a San Francisco Bay Area man whose Wells Fargo-issued card was deactivated this week and a couple in Ohio whose card was placed on a watch.

When I saw the 'Ohio couple' I thought this is something the board needs to see.

My card got hacked somewhere 3 weeks ago. Citibank called to tell me about fraudulent activity and the account was closed. I had to send in a notarized letter telling them which charges weren’t mine. That was 10 days ago and the fraudulent charges are still listed. Still trying to get my E-bay account straightened out. Somehow the guy managed to get into my account, change my password, and bid on an item. How they did that I don’t know, as you have to know the “hint” to change the password. What struck me as odd as this happened last year. I even found the ship to address with a name, street address and city. I called Citibank and tried to give them that info, but they could have cared less. They were not out any money, as they had not paid out anything yet. But those stores were out of their money. I found a ship to address this time. I didn’t even call Citibank. I did notify E-bay, but so far, no response from them on the “new” ship to address added to my account. You would think these businesses would want to at least follow up on the info I gave them. Who knows, you just might be able to catch someone.

Why not file a complaint with the police in the new " ship to city" and let them sort it out

I honestly thought about contacting the Mason County Sheriff but I figured they would be asking questions that only Citibank or E-bay could answer. When I saw on my account where the guy changed my password, E-bay had the IP address from where that came from. Different from my IP address. Since their reputation is at stake also, seems to me they would be more concerned. E-bay especially. They try their best to root out fraud as the whole concept is based on trust. Credit Card Companies? Naw, they’re just loan sharks. As long as they are not out any money, they don’t care. They only reason they alert you is that they are afraid they will lose money.
