...................................I read in the newspaper this morning that minimum credit card payments will be raised by credit card companies next month. Thank goodness I participated with others in my church recently in a "credit card" shredding party. I cut up all ( yes all ) of them & loved it. Time for all of us to get out of the hole as soon as possible. I quit borrowing $$ & the rest of us needs to quit also. Found it interesting that this would be announced on the heels of new bankruptcy laws that just went into effect...laws that were supported by credit card companies.
The price of gas at the pumps are higher now than a year ago...oil companies reporting record profits.
Years ago, before the Democratic Party took the extreme turn to the left and became the party of tree huggers and social engineering, they represented the average working American and small business owner. The Republican Party was known to represent big business. The Republican Party shifted to the middle of the road and acquired the voters that were unhappy with the Democratic Party. It now appears that the Republic Party is now back representing big business and ignoring the interest of the common folks.
This Nation is on a collision course with financial disaster. It is reaching the point that the average citizen does not have the ability to continue paying for social programs, high cost of government, big business abuse and still pay their personal financial commitments. I suspect that the average American's standard of living has declined these past ten years.
We need to start VOTING for folks that represent the average tax paying American...folks that will have the guts to address big business abuse, government waste, the lack of security on our borders that enable illegals to cross at will, correct our failing educational system, abuse of social programs, and corruption of the public sector. It is time to vote for the person, not the political party.
We need to restore the values that made this Nation great...again resume a leadership role in world affairs laced with honor and fair play.
We need politicians that are in the real world, not the fantasy world they live in. We need in this country massive tax cuts along with massive spending cuts. They have lost touch with real Americans & it shows!! Time to get in gear and vote these crooks out of office...regardless of the party they are affiliated with!!
Do you agree...... or ....... disagree??
Comments??? .......................see ya mark

What values...hmmm? Let's see. The value of stealing the land from a people still living in the stone age and murdering the ones who resist. How about the the one where we make anyone who is not WHITE a slave. Then there is the value of not allowing the women of America the same rights as the men...and ladies, you still are not equally paid. Yup...all kinds of wonderful values. The best thing the people of the world could do is go back to into the forest and never come out again.

I agree with Mark's statements. I've said it before; I don't care anymore what party affiliation a candidate has as long as they have our best interests at heart and will actually work for the everyday American. Of course, where we will find this candidate remains to be seen. They seem to be in very short supply on either side of the aisle.

It’s too late. The vast majority of the voters don’t have a clue what is going on in politics. And don’t care. The country will have to crash before these people pull their heads out of the sand. 30 years ago a president resigned because his staff spied on the opposition and he tried to cover it up. The voters were appalled. Now, a president misleads us into a war and gets re-elected. But more importantly, the people that gave him the power to start this war got elected again. People get mad at presidents but are too dumb to realize that it’s actually congress that is the root of the problem. Just remember, if you are mad at Bush, our very own senators, McConnell and Bunning, are right behind him. That’s what makes me mad. People will change presidents but don’t have a clue it was their very own congressman or congresswoman that is the real root of the problem. These bozos should loose at the primary elections. Until that happens, I’m convinced the country is headed for a terrible downfall.

Seems to me the people that vote this administration in are doing the most complaining about the state of the union. We only have 3 more years of this.

A large portion of the population doesn’t even vote anymore. We will always have the lever pullers. These are the ones who would vote for Hitler if he were a Democrat or Stalin if he were a Republican. A small core of swing voters is actually what elects presidents. It was the swing voter that has put Republicans in power by a small majority. Those are the voters they now fear. Lever pullers rarely change. Don’t believe me? God would lose if he ran as a Republican in Mason County on a local level. And He would lose in Lewis County if he ran as a Democrat. But even the swing voter seems to vote for their own congressperson. When’s the last time you saw a massive turnover in congress?

dpolly, I like your thoughts, and wish you all the luck in finding a politician that "really" has our best interests at heart. The last one was Ross P, and everyone thought he was nuts....remember the "giant sucking sound" speach with all the graphs? Well I guess he wasn't so crazy after all.
Keep looking and let me know when you find him or her.

no such thing as an honest politician or a politician that has anyone's best interest at heart.
the problem is we, well not we, i don't vote, and won't till there is a "none of the above" option,
but everyone who does vote, keeps voting for "politicians", politicians will say and do anything to get elected.
we need to do 2 things.
ELIMINATE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS and vote in ordinary guys who will actually vote the way they say they will.

Here’s the thing. A politician will do anything to stay in office. When they see that the average person will throw them out at the next election, they pay attention to the average person. So far this has not happened. You don’t have to change parties at the next election. Just vote against the incumbent at the next primary. When a large percentage of incumbents hit the streets, the party gets the message. I’ll admit, it will probably take at least 3 election cycles before they get the message, but it can happen. Not that it will.

Yes Chuck, I've seen the error of my ways. I voted for the current administration, but a lot of things that are going on now are not what I voted for. Political capital, as "W" put it doesn't justify some of the policies being promoted or instituted since last January (and no, I'm not dragging the war into this thread).

Understand. We all want the best for our country. It's a 50/50 gamble at election time.

I remember back in the early fifties that my Dad used to say,
" the rich get richer, while the poor play bingo "
Don't guess a whole lot has really changed in 50 years.

I really enjoy the intelligent perspectives everyone provides on such topics. It's really an issue based more upon socioeconomic status than politics. More people today are in the "have" or "have not" class as the middle class as we have known it has almost completely disappeared and much of what it represented has disappeared with it. Politicians do not and have not created this situation. We have! Don't expect politicians to change what they didn't create and don't understand. I leave you with the following: we need to educate ourselves about these matters and take action to correct it: the same fifty something guy who shops at Walmart 2-3 times a week with his wife for "cheap" goods is losing his job at the factory because his company is outsourcing the operations "overseas" for cheap labor so they can remain competitive. Who's driving the demand for this situation?

I got a question. What amount of money constitutes being rich ?
MichaelB

That's a good question. I assume the answer is relative to each individual. The truly rich people I know assess their wealth based upon something other than finances.

When it comes to cheap goods at Wal-Marts, we don’t have alternatives on most stuff. Our factories are gone. Now, take a hard look on where that stuff is from. Then ask yourself if that country’s government is a friend of the U.S. or hostile to us. If hostile, why are we trading with them? Because our congress allowed it. They control trade. They decide who we trade with. They are the ones who decided to trade with governments that are hostile to us and oppressors to their own people. Congress is the one that allowed trade with murderous governments because big business wanted cheap labor with no health insurance and to avoid taxes. We are now so dependent on foreign trade, if we were to shut our borders, our very own military would come to a halt in a few months for lack of parts. How’s that for homeland security? Courtesy of our very own congress.

Ships come into our ports loaded with goods that we buy from China. But China doesn't buy very much from us. So we have to send ships back loaded with empty containers.
(Well almost empty, they're actually filled with dollars, and jobs, and the future.)

I think we figured it out. I am not a fan of impeachment laws. It will take a lot to win me over to that idea regardless of who is in office.
Think about it, do you really want Dick Chaney running this country???

no wonder americans have lost interest in politics, no matter what party gets in office he tends to forgets why he is there, would a female in office be better, well why not give one four to eight years to proove herself, heck look how many years we have given a man to let us down.

And that woman would be, who, Billary Clinton? Women can be just as incompetent as men when they're in power (see the governor of Louisiana). It really doesn't matter who is in office. As long as they are a "politician" things will not change.

What a bunch of Marxist dogma. You folks have been deceived. Seek the truth and you will find it, and it isn't on your televisions, in your newspapers, or in any other mainstream media publications, and it surely isn't in the anti-Christian and marxist dogma that comes out of HELLywood.
