when the board needs money, they go to us the taxpayer. i would like to be able to have someone pay for my home, but then i would be acting like a democrat.

78 acres...just think they could have saved half a million if they had built the new school on the Jockey land. I think that's about what they paid for the land the new school is on. But I'm guessing now we will have our taxes raised, again!!

The good thing is now that the board of education owns the 'Jockey" land, there won't be an adult rehab going in there.

I don't think that was the intended location for the rehab. It was my understanding that the rehab is going to be north of there on Martha Comer Dr.

The Jockey land and building are directly across from the new school. A parking lot and grassy knol front Clarks Run.
The school has already started using the land as a cross country track for runners.
If the parcel in question is adjacent to the jockey (now school) property, that means as the students participate in track and field events, they will have a built in audience of "100 male" recovering drug addicts and 50 employees to cheer them on as they run through the fields.
Don't forget all the "visitors" these facilities are known to attract.
This should make for some exciting times as we park our cars to watch our school kids participate in athletic events.

Still falls down to what is an acceptable risk. If people still send their children to school after the facility is built then it must be acceptable. Time will tell.

Whether it's the school board or anything else these days, it's mostly politics as usual.

.................& the sad part is...............we continue to go along with this big time spending just forthe sake of "education". No one wants to touch that taboo subject & the school systems around America can generally spend on anything they want to.
My kids are continually bringing home candles, calendars, cookies, plants, wrapping paper & who knows what all else because the school "has no money" for the outside activities.
One thing is for sure......................
I bet that $850,000 spent on the Jockey building would go a loooooong way towards funding the extra curricular activities..................see ya mark

Actually we have needed a bus garage for many years. The school system had put this off, saving money to make this purchase. This is also a great location for the bus garage.
I have not seen any kids suffer for "Lack Of" in our school system. We also have a school board that will listen if you voice your opinion to them.
Now I have never been much on public supported extra curricular activities inside the school system. Other than the basic football, baseball, and basketball type sports. IE.. other typical sports and academic type activities.
My kids don't ride the bus but I see a need for this and I also see a need for a better maintenance facility than the one in current use.

...............OK, I'll buy into the saving thing for the Jockey building. That's good move. However, since the $$ is flowing pretty good at the school system, I see no need in all the fundraisers.
If they can raise $850K, that's awesome. Regarding the fundraisers, if they can raise that kind of jack, they can budget for the activities, spend it & make it happen. That way, our kids will not have to keep on bringing all those fundraisers home..............see ya mark

When my daugher was in the second grade, she sold more magazines than anyone else. The recognition gave her much needed confidence. I have always thought fund raisers give little children a way to excel. I try to buy from every child that comes to my door.

i have to pay for more extra curricular activities than my parents did and the fundraising does get on my nerves but we are very lucky to have the supportive staff and the people in key positions that can look ahead and see the things a district this size needs you would be suprised how many districts are in financial trouble and the residents pay musch more taxes than us.
I will go with public school over home school at any price it is hard enough to make it in everyday life as an adult with the benefit of a good quality education and the comradary of my school days I am not sure what the home school craze will bring in the future
