If you were asked to name an example of government waste of taxpayer money, what would it be? $600 toilet seats?

Looks like the government with the help of two hurricanes has out done themselves with a new two flush toilet.

The bowl gets cleaned out twice for the same money.

Hurricane Rita left floodwaters lapping at the high-water marks set by Katrina just three weeks ago, raising questions about how swiftly New Orleans can recover from its epic second flushing.

The holding capacity of wetlands helps control floods and prevents water logging of crops. Preserving and restoring wetlands, together with other water retention, can often provide the level of flood control otherwise provided by expensive dredge operations and levees. The bottomland hardwood- riparian wetlands along the Mississippi River once stored at least 60 days of floodwater. Now they store only 12 days because most have been filled or drained.

Picture this:

The season has six weeks left and has already spawned three of the most intense hurricanes on record.

Hurricane experts say the Atlantic has entered a period of heightened storm activity that could last another 20 years.

If this is true, and rebuilding takes around four years, as reported, this should be an interesting couple of decades ahead for our friends on the Gulf Coast.

I think they should be increasing the wetlands, not filling them in................
