Maysville – John Albert Pfeffer, 88, well known farmer and landowner of the Minerva community died Saturday afternoon at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.

Born April 19, 1917, Mr. Pfeffer was the son of the late Pete and Clara Schwendelneck Pfeffer of Mayslick. It was in Mayslick that he met his beloved and devoted wife, the late Heneretta (Retta) Wenz Pfeffer. They married in 1940 and made their home in Minerva for 53 years until her death in 1993.

A devout Catholic, Mr. Pfeffer attended St. James Church in Minerva until its closure and then St. Patrick’s Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was well known for his winning burley tobacco crops. He loved his farm and went there every day until his death.

Mr. Pfeffer is survived by his three children, Carolyn (Bill) Poage of Morehead, Anita (Monroe) Forman of Tollesboro, and John (Carolyn) Pfeffer of Minerva; nine grandchildren, Michelle Poage (Wes) Hardin, Troy (Lisa) Poage, Scott Poage and Jonathan Poage, all of Morehead, Kristi Poage (Kevin) Bauer of Brooksville, Jennifer Forman (Chris) Bauer of Minerva, Ryan Forman and Rebecca Forman of Tollesboro and Ross Forman of Alexandria; and six precious great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Hardin of Morehead, Lauren and Aaron Bauer of Brooksville, and Brennan and Baylen Bauer of Minerva. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Ann Pfeffer of Mayslick and Mary Jo Pfeffer of Covington, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Steven Pfeffer, a sister, Margaret Pfeffer Wenz, and four brothers, Charles “Bud” Pfeffer, Chris Pfeffer, Dan Pfeffer, and Pete “Junie” Pfeffer, Jr.

Mass of Chrsitian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday August 2, 2005 at 10:00 am at St. James Church in Minerva with the Rev James L. McHugh officiating. Burail will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brell & Son Funeral Home with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Paulbearers will be Troy Paoge, Ryan Forman, Ross Forman, Scott Poage, Jonathan Poage, and Anthony Wenz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Patrick’s Church or St. Patrick’s School.
