If you have taken an animal to the shelter or know someone who has, you might find the reason on this list.

We have a 16 year old toy poodle. She's a lot of trouble and sure is expensive, but we love her to death

Our Rottweiler will be 3 this June. We had her inside until I got pregnant then we put her outside. Since she has been outside she has finally started to gain weight. She isn't to sure of our 10 1/2 month old son but I would never think of taking her to a shelter. We let her run in our back yard (close to 4.5 acres) every chance we get. I would like to sell her to someone who can let her run all the time but I will keep her till I die before I would take her to the animal shelter we have here in town. If you know anyone who would like a house raised but now outdoors bigger dog who loves kids (she just isn't sure about mine yet) and loves to run and play email me. We need an ASPCA here in town and I'm glad to see that someone is in the process of forming one.

I couldnt ever bring myself to take any animal to a shelter, that would break my hurt and I would be haunted by the look in the animals trusting eyes.
Thumbs up for the Humane Society.

I could never put my best friend into a shelter. I'd work my life around to keep her, instead of putting her into a shelter.
If there was a need, it'd have to be the most dire, and temporary. Then it'd be in a no-kill shelter for sure.
You know, I can't go into even a no-kill shelter because I'd want desperately to take everyone of them home.
And yes, Kym said it best:
Just read those excuses, makes one want to keep the pet, take the human to the shelter
I leave it at that.
