Without more data, it's a tough call. It's odd indeed that there wasn't anyone else there when they was suppose to have two or more folks there. If that's true, then something should be done. Hope she'll be ok, and soon.

Unlike someone spilling coffee in her lap, this case has merit. It's a sad time in our history that there are persons out there that will harm others for a few dollars. A whole generation or generations that think the world owes them a living. On the contrary, Leanne has a legitimate reason to have expected that her employer would provide a safe environment for her to work in and it is apparent that was not the case. Too bad that an employer has to assume some responsibility here, after all, that employer provides jobs for many and needed services to its customers and now will have to pay even more because of our society's lack of teaching self responsibility.
Until we teach our children that they have to earn a living and take responsibility for themselves, I'm afraid that this kind of stuff will continue.

This wasnt a matter of robbery. He just plain beat her and left her for dead.
I also used to work at that same Speedway back when it was SuperAmerica. There would be two or three employees scheduled for dayshift, always two employees scheduled on second shift and always only one person scheduled for third shift. Reason being: third shift is slow and having two people on duty cannot be justified. Of all shifts, third is the one that should have two employees on duty at all times. That's plain common sense.

yes this was strictly a beating. this man had every intention of killing Leeann. Who knows what startled him and caused him to stop but thank God he did. I believe that Leeann should sue Speedway. I have not seen any gas station that there was only one employee in on third shift. The only time there would be only one employee is is the station has a night pass-thru window. Wether they are busy or not the company needs to think about the safety of their employees. If the president of Speedways daughter, or mother, or wife were there then there would surely be a second person. The company needs to be held accountable for this negligence, but again this just my opinion.

I'm curious, does anyone know who owns Speedway? Is it a local owner?

Speedway is a corporate store owned by Marathon Oil Corporation.

This is a tough call. Though the store is corporate owned, I assume it has a manager that hires, fires and staffs the place. I wonder if the corporate office was aware of the manager not having two people on the night shift. But with payroll records, I don’t see how they could not know. If they were aware that the manager was violating policy, they are guilty. But I have no clue what the corporation knows or doesn’t know. If they honestly did not know the manager was violating corporate policy, they should be dismissed from the lawsuit. They should not be held responsible for an errant employee. But they should be willing to pay, without Leanne even having to ask, all medical expenses. But I’m not sure how you could hold anyone responsible for the actions of the attacker. No one knew. And for all we know, if the store had been properly staffed, it might have been two people he attacked.

Yes, exactly Tkcomer. I was just wondering if someone local owned the franchise on the store, sometimes it's someone local, like McDonalds has a local owner or operator, whatever you call them. Do you know Annie?

Ok just to let you know I used to work for them and no they are not locally owned and yes the manager is supposed to have 2 on nights --let me give you a little history on the so called manager .....I was working a nite shift (being trained) and my brand new car got vandalized I wasn't going to call the police but other employees encouraged me to do so ---so after I got off I called them while I was still there and filed a report --when I came on the next nite there was a note from the manager stating that we were to not call the police unless it was LIFE THREATENING!!! Ok that made me mad, the cops that came there mad, my husband mad and the other employees mad.........This manager is not worried about your safety she is worried about MAN HOURS!!!!! GO LEANNE and if she was to call on me I would spill my gutts about how this place is ran ---There are many things the public doesn't know as like most places.........

No, I didn’t know her. But before Murphy’s Mart opened, I bought just about all my gas there. The manager sounds like a real doozy. With that behavior, it’s hard to imagine the corporate headquarters didn’t know something. And when supervision refuses to discipline lower level employees, they are as guilty as that employee is.

When I worked there, a few of the local police officers and deputies from the sheriff's office would stop in for coffee. The manager there at that time would review the security tapes and question us as to why 'the law' had been there the day before. We were instructed NOT to have conversation with them.

Now I want to call the manager something other than a doozy. If I ran the place, the cops would get free coffee. That’s a little extra security for dirt cheap. Nice to have on those long lonely nightshifts.

I think she should sue. After all she almost got killed. Need two employees working on that shift and one should be a big mean man.

why does the manager seem so nervous about the police being there? That's really odd to me. I would have to wonder when the manager tells you not to talk to the police unless it is "life-threatening"?????? What is she trying to hide????? Me nor my family is ever shopping there again, Even if I have to push my car down the road to the next gas station for gas, I'll NEVER shop there again!!!!!!

I dont know how the current manager feels about it but the manager I had when I worked there thought it looked 'bad' to have people drive by and see a patrol car sitting on the lot. She felt this would prevent customers from stopping in.

I for one agree LeAnn should sue and get whatever she can from them. Common sense tells you you need 2 people on a 3rd shift in a gas station. LeAnn was my sister-in-law but nit when this happened and I hope she gets what she wants and choate rots in H#$%. But thats my opinion.
