Received this email this morning. People in our community need to know this and be aware!

============
Good Morning,
Ron and I had dinner with our neighbor yesterday, and she told us of an
experience she had at the Maysville Kmart that I think needs to be
passed along - just to raise awareness. As she was putting her things
into her car (a Suburban), a man pulled up very close to her and told
her that she had something leaking near her right front tire. She had
that good old intuition happening, so said "okay, thanks" and proceeded
to put her things into her car. Thinking the man had left, she went
around to the front to look at the tire. When she lifted her head back
up again, he had parked again right next to and kind of behind her, in
a position that looked like could knock her down if he opened his door.
She was startled by him, and told him she would let her husband look at
it when she got home. Then, the man said "no, it's your other tire" and
told her it could be her brake system. He said "if you let me get into
your car, I can better tell you what's happening. You shouldn't drive
it." Of course, she said no (thank God) and got in and locked her car.

She was fortunate to get his license number on her way home and was
careful to see that she was not followed. When she contacted the
Maysville police, they ran his plates and found that he is a registered
sex offender from Florida, who was placed here by the FBI without the
police being informed. This man lives in the Riggs motel, less than a
mile from Jones Elementary. Upon further research, my neighbor found
over a dozen registered sex offenders living in Mason and Bracken
county, many of them within walking distance of our kids' playgrounds.
Their pictures are on the Kentucky State Police website, and many of
them look like normal every day men that could come to your door to try
to sell you insurance or do work around your house.

The fact is, Maysville is no more secure from this type of behavior
than any other place in the country. Please, be aware of your
surroundings and use caution with seemingly helpful strangers in
retailer parking lots. We are not immune. For those of you with kids
in county schools, talk to them about the potential dangers, what to do
if approached, or God forbid, abducted by someone. Crazy stuff is
happening all over the place, EVEN IN MAYSVILLE. Please take care to
stay alert and aware and protect yourself, your spouse and your precious
children. Check out the website for additional information, including
pictures and offenses.

Mass email..( I and several other family members received this same email.) To my knowledge this incident was never reported to the police. But all women, ever where, should always take the universal precautions when out in public alone.

To clarify.. Contacting the police for a license number, and actually reporting the incident are two different things. And access to the state licensing system is for law enforcement only. With out an officer's permission, that information can not be given to an individual outside the law enforcement community. This email, none the less, has a nice scare factor to it and should serve as a reminder that even the small town of Maysville are not immune to these societal warts.

This is good information, and it's always good to be safe and be aware of your surroundings. However, the Maysville Police Department has a pretty tight policy regarding the release of informatoin based off a license plate. They are not allowed to tell the general public who a vehicle is registered to, or where that person resides. They will also not release that information very often even over the radio. you will often here the officer ask the dispatcher to "run and hold the information". The officer will than go to the station or call on the cell to get the name the vehicle is registered to.
Again, this is good information, and people should always be careful...

hey eastend thanks for the heads up. I have 4 sons and I have sat down with my kids and have shown them the pictures on the Sex Offenders site. I have told my sons if you are ever approached by any of these men run and find an adult in a public place. In a small town like this the kids as well as the parents can be a bit nieve and think that they are safe. There was a time when you could sleep with your doors unlocked and leave your windows up. Times have changed and so does the way we live our lives from day to day. My only question is, Why are these people let back out to do this all over again? I understand there is no room in the jails for these people but isn't there somewhere else to send them. I know Alcatraz is closed down but why dont they open it for child molesters and for the rapists. Let them live among their own kind and then die there as well. The world would be better off without them.

I looked on the Kentucky State Police website and I found only one person living in the Rigg Motel and I personally can tell you that he can't drive and doesn't. The person listed on the website (for information only) used to live in my mother-in-laws trailer. What got us was he lived there from the middle of October till the end of Feb. and we were never notified that he was a sex offender. I learned it while trying to collect rent (I also had my 7 month old son in the car with me). The neighbor had found out somehow and let me know that I shouldn't be over there by myself. From that point on my husband went with me. I contacted the Sheriff's office and they gave me a number to call about why we weren't contacted about the matter. When I called the number, to my suprise, it was an automated recording asking for my name, address, and phone number so they could inform me if anyone moved near me. I think they should notify ANYONE who lives within 5 miles of the offenders address. I told a lady I worked with at the time (who babysits her grandson) that the person was living 1/2 mile up the road and she said her daughter (the mother of her grandson she babysat) lived right accross the street. I gave her the phone number and she called but what gets me is we shouldn't have to call a voice recording and ask to be told of these things. A question for thought, How many children live around the Rigg Motel on the Avenue? I would say anywhere from 25-50, and that is just a guess from driving the Avenue on a daily basis. Thank You.

It is not against the law for the parent of that community to make up flyers to pass out to there neighbors, for that matter you can hang them up in every business and telephone pole in the city. Come on, this guy lost his freedom of anonymity when he sexually abused someone. **** why don't we post his sex offender page on this site so EVERYONE knows who it is. It would be very beneficial to our community if we had a section on the forums dedicated to identifying sex offenders in our area. We as law abiding citizens have the right to be informed of predators in our area. Let's be honest. As much as we'd like to think the state will help us out on this sex offender registration issue, it is up to us to protect our children and the women of our community.

Sounds like a good idea...

I do know for a fact though that you can call or contact the police with a license plate number and get the name and address of the person the vehicle is registered to. May depend on who you know, but it has been done.
However, the Maysville Police Department has a pretty tight policy regarding the release of informatoin based off a license plate. They are not allowed to tell the general public who a vehicle is registered to, or where that person resides.

I have 2 young kids that like to ride bikes here on eastend and like to go to their grandmothers(about 3 streets over) on a daily basis, and I will admit that I have let them go together or with another friend. I somehow felt better knowing they weren't alone, but now, looking at the site, I am having second thoughts. I just told my husband last night that we are going to have to state the rules that they are to stay on our street only, and I still fear that. It is sad though. Times have changed so much. What happened to the good ol' days.

I am thinking seriously about those flyers!!!

Never said it was possible just very illegal. I know for a fact that it is against the law to use LINK/NCIC in a non enforcement way. And the Department can/will be fined very heftily if State and federal agencies find out about it. I myself, if ever asked would never OK the dispatcher to give our personal information from a license plate no matter what the circumstance were.

And by all means, PLEASE! Post those flyers.. Thats the quickest way to kid rid of the problem.

I sort of figured that this was false after posting and reading the first reply.

Just hope this doesn't guide people to let their guards down, especially when their kids are involved.

Some assume that because we are in a small community it more than likely wouldn't happen here.

Hopefully everyone looked at the website and are more aware. I know that I am.

It not all false info. A person took real info and by adding to or filling in the blanks released something that was true but had bad details surrounding the incident.

Just because the details where missed doesn't take from that fact that the basic incident did happen.

People need to know that the only difference between this email and a rumor on the street is how it got around. On the street this information would have taken months to hit the same number of people that this email took only a few days.

It should being reported as an email that just has mis-information instead of a fake email.

The fact that the person lives in Ohio and not Ky. only proves the Police Department did NOT give out someones personal info based on a license plate number. This meant that the person typing the email possibly choose to fill in the blanks.

So the real question is should people quit talking about real incidents or situations because the details might be incorrect? Maybe they should but they won't.

I certainly will be more aware since reading the e-mail. The situation still occurred here in town whether the name and address of the man was correct or not. It is still a heads up!

Well I just found out via the newspaper that this was not true. Whoever made this up should have his or her picture plastered all over the newspaper the word LIAR all over it. I am from Maysville and I am proud of that, but it is this type of story twisting that makes me happy to live in Biloxi, MS.

I agree it is important for the community to know where sexually predators are living. It is very important to view the KSP web site. I live in Augusta and have three sexual offenders living within a block of me. I make my children very aware of them, as well as tell all the children that play with my children. Funny huh, pit bull ban in Bracken County, but three child predators living within a block of one another, one is just as harmful as the other I would think!!!

Now a news story from Biloxi MS.

Library arrest not that simple

By ROBIN FITZGERALD

BILOXI - The recent arrest of a homeless man accused of simple assault on a police officer wasn't as simple as police reported, according to feedback from Sun Herald readers.

Police did report the March 30 arrest of 31-year-old Lawrence Lee Boardman Jr.

But it's what police didn't report that caused people who witnessed or heard of the arrest to question why The Sun Herald didn't provide the details.
