Question up for discussion......

..........I know some here are against the death penalty, prison torture & anything else pertaining to the war in Iraq.

So, having said that, here's a scenario I'm putting on the table. Let's suppose 4 terrorists kidnapped your spouse and your 7 year old daughter. Two of the terrorist gets away with your family....and....you catch the other two. The two you caught aren't going to talk at all pertaining the whereabouts of your family.

Here's the question.

What would YOU do to extract information from these terrorist to get your family back safely??
Would you:
1. Talk real nice to them hoping they would talk??
2. Give them cookies & milk & keep their belly's full hoping they would talk?
3. Use torture methods similar to what the Japanese did to U.S. servicemen during WWII?? ( Such as electrical shock, water in the lungs-almost drowning trick, etc. )
4. Put them in jail until they talk??
5. Something else I haven't mentioned??

Since this question is designed to "bring" it closer to home, I'd love to hear your responses before I post. ( in a few days )

#5 for sure, and only to one terrorist while the other one watched and he would talk for sure.

As for my spouse (hubby) and daughter...by hubby is very resourceful and he would get them free somehow, he is old school like a cross between a navy seal and motorcycle gang member, so I put my faith in him...

1st rule in a hostage situation. Shoot the hostage and you have no situation.

Next you said terrorist and Iraq in the same sentence. It is believe we have not been terrorized by Iraq yet but we are working on it.

With what I have found out about terrorist I will need to assume these terrorist are Saudis with only a slight chance they are vindictive Iraqis or maybe just some disgruntle American workers. (Come on you knew I would choose the extreme)

I believe I could torture a disgruntle American worker into talking. A foreign terrorist would be under my scope of training so I guess, since I can still see the other 2 making off with the family. With that in mind I would take the 1st two out and continue my pursuit of the other two.

Now on with a realistic answer. I can tell you based on experience that in a crises situation you rarely ever now what you will do ahead of time. You play it by ear and try to make the best choices of the information presented in each particular split second. Each second you options change and so do your choices.

So I input option #6 - All of the above.

I honestly do not know what I would do till it happened.

You can’t torture them. Nope, no can do. Constitution forbids it. End of story. You can’t pick and choose amongst the amendments. You can give them a quick and speedy trial and execute them. And why call them terrorists? Call them what they are, kidnappers. It happens all the time in this country. What doesn’t happen is the speedy trial and execution part when they get caught and convicted.

..............OK, OK, you got me on that one. Yes, they are kidnappers. I was trying to get comments as to what you would do if actual "terrorists" removed your family. We know they don't care about life & although trading lives for lives isn't good, I was curious as to what the forums readers would actually do IF your family was taken.

Personally, regardless of the law, I would torture those 2 terrorist if the others took my family.

I'll take my chances being tried by 12 American jurors verses using 12 American pallbearers to bury my family.

Here’s the problem. If you or I tortured them to death, we would be thrown in jail, and our families would still be dead. We would be put on trial as a crazed idiot and if we were lucky, get life in prison. In a politically correct society, we can’t take the law into our own hands. Something I was never keen on in certain situations. But, if we turn them over to the law, and they are tried, convicted and put to death, that would send a clear message to the world. I don’t care what people say, in certain situations, the death penalty is a clear deterrent.

If this happen to my family, I surely wouldn’t worry about the law and what they would do to me. And I know for sure I wouldn’t turn 2 of the terrorist/kidnappers over to our (US) law enforcement system. They would wine and dine them. I would tie them to the front of my truck and tell them they better point me in the right direction of my family, or I would hit every barbwire fence I came across.
