What type of music do you enjoy listening to and who is your favorite artist/group?
I enjoy all types of music but would have to say that I listen to country more than anything.

.....................comtempory Christian here, although jazz is great late evening music--so soothing. I listen to music & radio more than I watch TV. Better for the mind.

Favorite artist?
Hmmm, I'd say Stephen Curtis Chapman, Brian Duncan, Point of Grace, guys you may have herad of if you like contemporary Christian.
At work, I listen to WAGX- ( 101.3 ) a multi format station. It's about the only station I can pick up on the radio. Those oldies are neat sometimes.

Really, I'll listen to about anything EXCEPT opera & that rap stuff...........see ya Mark

How about Mercyme? Excellent Contemporary Christian music.
I'm a product of the '70's, so just about any rock, southern rock, etc. from that decade is good.....

Boy that's big order, lets see if I can fill it:

Classical/pop fusion
Bond
Vanessa Mae
Sarah Brightman
Andrea Bochelli
Charlotte Church - as examples

Symphonic heavy metal
So far, only 'Nightwish'
This is a new style that's come out in the last 10 or so years. Featuring an operatically trained female lead singer, in a heavy metal band. A strange combo, till you listen to Nightwish. They combine classical instruments also, with heavy metal instruments. Lyrics are extremely educated; I hear things from the bible, LOTR, other classic pieces of lititure, not to mention some of the sciences. Tarja is an exceptional singer. Their site is at: www.nightwish.com, and a few songs I'd strongly recommend. 'Nemo', 'Over the Hills and far away', and my perannual favorate, 'Sleeping sun'

Celtic
Loreena Mckennitt (so far)

New Age
A lot of new age, but it's such a broad catagory, it's hard to pin down exactly what sort. But some groups and people have been ShadowFax, Jonn Serri, Ray Lynch, Constance Demby, Craig Chaquico (pronounced 'Cha key so') The former guitarest for 'StarShip' 'Jefferson StarShip', and 'Jefferson Airplane'; Eyna, Yanni

Classic Rock/folk/oldies:
Kingston Trio
Most doo-whop (like the Platters - Big fan!)
Queen
Huey Lewis & The News
Bangles
Debbie (Debra) Gibson
Tiffiney (as an example.)

A little bit of country (I didn't grow up with it)
Ray Stevens, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, to name a few

Classical (I don't need to list :)

Big band

Jazz, (especially Dixieland Jazz, one of my favorate types - Give me the Firehouse 5+2 anyday :)

I think one of the things I've noticed with my love of music, is a) the singer has to be able to sing. That's one thing I don't like about most of today's music. 90% of the people's voices seem to fluxuate up and down. (Maria Carey is a fine example of this) They say she can sing 5 octaves (or such) Yeah, it shows with every *lyric* and singing groups are out of harmony. Rap...ug, not even singing, although the instrumentals can be ok at times. and b) The instrumental people have to know how to play too. I can't stand the type of heavy metal where it's constent guitar, and drums, and the singer is basically screaming in the microphone. (You can't hear what he's saying anyway.) I'm not into punk and grunge either.

Basically if they can sing well and/or the instrumental is done well, I could like it. Some groups need a bit of time to grow on me (Like Nightwish), some grab me fast (Kingston Trio - I fell for them, from a Time-Life Folk group commerical at 4am :)

Huge list, as I'm sure everyone has, so I'll narrow it down to what's in the CD player this moment: Modest Mouse
