Recently I visited a local restaurant and ordered an item with mayo. I was disappointed when my sandwich arrived loaded with miracle whip, not mayo as stated on the menu. The waitress was not a happy camper when I sent my sandwich back. She made the remark "it's all the same anyway".
My taste buds think otherwise. There is a HUGE difference.
Anyone agree or disagree?

...........you know, I've never given it any thought.
I hate to admit it, but I'm not sure if I even knowwhat the difference is.
I bet that waitress was shocked......................see ya Mark

Miracle whip has a more tart and sweet taste than mayo. I like both, however, I prefer mayo on sandwiches. I use miracle whip for potato salad, cole slaw, deviled eggs.

The difference is that a good mayonnaise is fluffy and very eggy. On the other hand, Miracle Whip has vinegar and sugar in it, which really makes it a salad dressing. Growing up in Rhode Island, we were raised on a local brand, Seidner's Mayonnaise. It was very eggy, and of course was not as white as the national brands that we see on the shelves today. Sure miss that Seidner's! The Hellman's comes about as close as I can get. A good mayonnaise will complement the best of meats and seafood, whereas Miracle Whip will tend to cover the flavor of whatever it is put on. That's the difference and I'll stick to mayo.

I like both myself but, in my experience as a restuarant (many) cook I believe most restuarants use mayo rather than miracle whip. Unless they say they have a secret salad dressing, then its probably miracle whip. I'm the opposite I prefer mayo on sandwiches and using miracle for other things I cook.
Example mcdonalds secret sauce - thousand island dressing
lol

Annie:
I agree with you, I notice a difference too. But to be truthful, I find that mayo is superior to Miracle whip, disipite MW's trademark, of their 'zip' - I find mayo has that zip and MW is sort of - eh.

Gosh, I guess I’m different. I love Miracle Whip. I can’t remember the last time we bought a jar of Mayo.

I was raised on Miracle Whip. My Dad ate it on everything. Sandwiches, sliced tomatoes, cottage cheese, you name it.
I, like tkcomer, cannot remember when I last bought a jar of mayo.
But when I eat a sandwhich in a restaurant, I'll take what they give me. I'm not that particular.
