..............in the 2nd term??
If you can pick your most important ( one ) issue, what would you like Bush to accomplish in his final term & why??
Here's mine:
Get rid of the IRS. I understand the gov't would need to keep some employees to collect the actual tax income & do the accounting, however, if the gov't went to a flat tax or sales tax starting 1/1/2006, it would be marvelous.
Advantages would be:
1. No more keeping up with quarterly statements & dunning notices.
2. No more keeping up with receipts, cancelled checks & other assorted stuff we need for our tax returns.
3. You get to keep ALL your money except for the flat tax ( if that's what the gov't went to )
4. Even the cheaters will have to pay their $$ if we went to flat tax or sales tax format.
5. No more income tax cheaters or IRS agents looking for cheaters.
6. If its the sales tax we went to, the more your buy, the more you pay. Also, the less you buy, the less you pay. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
That's what I would like to see.
Regardless of whether you like Bush or not, what would you like to see accomplished & why?? ...........see ya Mark

Lets see, a Flat tax? You mean like the person making $10,000 a year would pay the same tax as a person making $300,000 a year?
Value added taxing unfairly taxes the middle class shopper.
With the figures I have seen for this type tax the percentages are way too high,
If the repealed all the fuel taxes, manufacturing taxes, cigarette taxes and every other tax as well as income tax I would consider it.
With that that you unfairly tax select groups of people that make certain purchases.
Remember that this value added or sales tax increase you speak of would carry a 30% proposed Federal Tax in addition to the 6% that the average state charges. Some daily purchases you make carry a 30%+ hidden tax. That is 30%+ tax already paid by the manufactures, Distributors and warehouses.
The proposal I have seen for this value added taxes still left loopholes for businesses to be tax exempt on purchases for the business. Which means corporate America would get to run tax free. You would have to pick up this tab at the check out lines.

Hmm...only ONE choice is tough, but it'd have to be health care. I know that sounds selfish, since it'd affect me, but basically it'd affect the entire nation. Everyone needs basic, cheap health care, from your seniors, to the children. But as one person said, we need some sort of balance. If there is health care, then people need to have some basica responsiblities on their own health. If for example they want to ride motorbikes without helments, then fine. Deny them basic free health. If they can pay then that's fine. No need for the tax payer to pick up the tab for their stupidity.
But also lets be fair too. If there is basic free health care, then we should have vaccine s too. Influenza, and Pneumonia are things we can vaccinate against. Also some other things. Everyone should have those up-to-date. Dental as well. Good dental hygine, and teeth care can prevent some serious illnesses.
It shouldn't be a free ride, but then it shouldn't be only for the wealthy either, which is how it's going. It can destory a family, and wipe out everything they worked for.

I would like to see ol' Dubya star on ABC's hit new reality show "Extreme Makeover: National Leader Edition". C'mon. I know what you may say, but there's nowhere else to go but the second term of president, so it's not like it will hurt his politcal career or anything.
First, they could start with a botox treatment so that our gentle president doesn't squint and scowl so much. It's hard to be a compassionate conservative when you are giving everyone the mean mug.
Second, they can reprogram that box that mysteriously appeared in the back of his suit jacket during the debates to stop playing Toby Keith over and over. Perhaps some soothing jazz or whale song might do the trick. Instead of wiring it to repeat everything Dick Cheney says, it can play something like, oh I don't know, how about... "Let's just be friends."
Finally, they can perform reconstructive surgery to remove his lips from the butt of his religious base. After all, he doesn't need them anymore.
Just a few suggestions : )

I’m with kcredden on this one. Health care. It is driving businesses out of the country. It is taxing the ones that stay. The poor and the elderly are getting some degree of free health care, while the middle class and businesses are paying for it. It’s becoming a huge drain on the economy. I’m not sure how to fix it, but we seem to be pouring more and more money into it and getting less. It’s a complex situation that would have to be attacked on many fronts. And no one would like it.

I would like to see our S.S. given back to us quicker..It's our money and I think we should be in charge of our retirement. If you get "yours" back and throw it away, that is no reason you "me" to support "you" during your old age out of "my" money that I busted my butt working my whole life for….wow…that sounds really selfish…lol….but you ask the question.

And sad to say I am less then 25 years from retirement...which is not long at all.
I started working when I was 15 years old...that would be a nice chunk of money right about now. I could use mind to pay off my house and whatever else, and hubby’s can go into his 401k. I might have to pay a penalty because I don’t know if they consider a house a true investment…not sure how it will really works yet. I do know you only have a certain amount of time to invest before some type of penalty is due. Guess we will have to wait and see.
