If you have Windows XP on your computer, you need to get your windows updates from Microsoft.
Here's How:
Open your Internet Explorer
At the top of the toolbar click on Tools
Then click on Windows Update
This will take you to Microsoft's page
Click on Scan for Updates
This process may take a few minutes depending on your connection to the internet.
It will tell you if you have any Critical Updates and automatically prompt you to download these files.
Once you are able to get theses files it will prompt you to
Restart
Once you have restarted your computer start the process all over again. It is recommended that any driver updates available you get as well. You will have to Restart again.
To keep your computer safe from Viruses you need to Update your Virus Scanner and check for Windows Updates at least once a week
